E-Juice FAQ

E-Juice Frequently Asked Questions

What is E-Juice?

E-juice or e-liquid is a liquid solution that is used in electronic cigarettes. A small amount of liquid is heated with a micro-heater in the cigarette to produce vapor and give the taste of selected flavor.

What Ingredients are Used to Make E-juice?

E-juice has four major ingredients:

  1. Propylene Glycol (PG): It is generally used in food flavorings, soft drinks, medicines, cake mixes, salad dressings and shampoos.
  2. Vegetable Glycerin (VG): it gives the vapor when the smoker of electronic cigarette exhales during smoking. It is found in cosmetics, skin care products and toothpastes. Well known e-juice manufacturers use food grade vegetable glycerin.
  3. Flavor: It makes vaping e-juice more pleasurable and gives relief from nicotine cravings. E-juices are available in flavors like tobacco, pineapple, grapefruit, blueberry, raspberry, coffee and menthol, among many others.
  4. Nicotine: The e-juices are available with varying strength of nicotine content. The choice of a particular level of nicotine strength in the e-juice depends on the e-cig user.

What is the Nicotine Strength in an E-Juice?

The e-liquid may or may not have nicotine. It is possible to choose an e- liquid with the desired strength of nicotine. An e-juice marked as 0 mg nicotine strength contains no nicotine. The medium level e-juice has 12 or 18 mg nicotine while at the higher level it can go as high as 24 mg. Heavy smokers start with high strength nicotine e-juice while light smokers start with medium strength nicotine e-juice. Over time, they move to e-juices with lower level of nicotine content. It helps them quit nicotine addiction entirely.

Does E-Juice Go Bad?

It depends on several factors. A good quality unopened e-juice stored under the right conditions can have a shelf life of about two years. The e-juice goes bad in about six months time after opening the liquid vial. It takes a lot longer for it to go bad if the seal of the vial is not opened. At the same time, the time the e-juice will go bad depends on the liquid quality and the type of storage used to store it. The shelf life of e-juice also depends on type of flavoring, PG/VG mix and quality of nicotine. For increased shelf life, the e-juice should be stored under favorable condition in a cool, dark and dry place as recommended by the manufacturing company.

Is Vaping E-Juice Bad for You?

E-juice has less negative effects compared to smoking leaf tobacco cigarettes because there is no burning of tobacco which releases tar and other carcinogen substances during smoking. The nicotine content of an e-cig can be bad if a smoker continues to smoke e-juices containing high levels of nicotine. The advantage with the use of e-cigarette is that the smoker has a choice to reduce the nicotine strength in the e-juice over time, which is not possible with traditional cigarettes. This unique advantage helps heavy smokers of traditional cigarettes quit nicotine addiction without suffering withdrawal symptoms.

How Long an E-Juice Vial Last?

It depends on the smoking pattern. It can last from several hours to a few days, depending on how much e-juice is consumed in one smoking session.

Who Can Purchase E-Juice Vials?

Individuals in the smoking age can purchase e-juice vials. This age is defined between 18 and 21 years, depending on the smoking age as legally defined in a particular state or province.

What Nicotine Strength of E-Juice Should You Order?

24 MG nicotine strength is recommended for smokers trying to come off 40 or more cigarettes a day. Traditional cigarette smokers smoking about 20 to 30 cigarettes a day should start with an e-juice with 10 MG nicotine strength. Smokers with 10 to 20 cigarettes a day habit should start with 12 mg nicotine strength e-juice. Smokers trying to come off 5 to 10 cigarettes a day can start with 6 mg nicotine strength e-juice. Individuals who do not need nicotine hit should choose 0 mg nicotine strength e-juice. New users are advised to start with midrange nicotine strength e-juice. Gradually, they can move to higher or lower level nicotine strength depending on their smoking experience and feel.

Is Vaping More Expensive Than Traditional Cigarettes?

The initial cost of electronic cigarette can be high but in the long term it is less costly compared to traditional cigarettes. Most of electronic cigarette parts are reusable so the smoker has to purchase only e-juices after buying the starter kit. There are cheaper starter kits. E-juices can be purchased in wholesale to make vaping less expensive.
